Revival

Is an exploration of cultural history seen through the reconstruction of silhouettes, garments, and patterns from the 1530s and 1780s.

  • The first part of the process is finding inspiration. This usually comes to me through learning about a new topic, seeing an interesting art piece, or spotting a new fabric.

Then the longest part of the process begins: pattern drafting. I use extant examples of garment construction in tandem with my own drafting practices to construct a workable pattern that is as historically accurate as I find reasonable.

Natural fibers are my fabrics of choice, as I find they’re most accurate in fit and feel to extant examples and historical records. From there I draft and fit outer garments and linings until the desired piece comes together.

Most of the sewing I do is by hand (needle and thread) with the exceptions of long or repetitive running stitches that can be done on machines.
